Extension of the Healthy Savanna Planning Systems in long-term evaluation project to all of Queensland

Summary:
The Healthy Savanna Planning System project is a three-year research-based evaluation of regional NRM planning initiatives in northern Australia's tropical savannas.
The project provides an objective appraisal of progress and constraints to regional NRM in northern Australia, using lessons from current experiences to inform future planning practice, NRM policy and program design.
This evaluation allowed the project to be extended Queensland-wide.
The evaluation focused on:
- the capacity of resource managers, their organisations and institutions to participate in planning and management activities
- partnerships, cooperative arrangements, structures for negotiation and ways to integrate effort
- effective application of technical information, integrated and efficient research and development, information delivery and regional monitoring systems.
This evaluation produced two main documents during 2005-06:
- a collection of case studies investigating significant themes in natural resource planning and implementation arising out of the earlier investigation and analysis
- a benchmark report documenting the synthesised assessment of natural resource planning and implementation in the savanna regions, against healthy regional arrangements criteria highlighting lessons, constraints, progress made and future directions.
