Water quality SIPs

The water quality SIPs guide and support regional bodies through the water quality target-setting process and assists the development of monitoring, evaluation and reporting components of the regional NRM planning process.

The water quality projects aim to enhance the ability of regional bodies to address water quality issues through:

WQ01

Framework and processes for target-setting and monitoring

Development of a framework and processes for setting targets and monitoring progress with appropriate indicators.

This project provides the overall coordination and regional delivery mechanisms across the water quality projects.

For more information contact the project leader.

WQ02

Collation and assessment of existing water quality information

Compiling and making available existing water quality data and biological data for catchments.

The project will provide regional assessments of the current water quality to assist regional decision-making.

For more information contact the project leader.

WQ03

Modelling landscape processes, management impacts and catchment loads

Using spatial and temporal models to provide regions with user-friendly outputs related to landscape processes and their impacts on water quality, the effect of management practices and estimates and predictions of catchment loads.

Enhancement of selected monitoring sites in each catchment will provide better temporal resolution of key water quality indicators, as well as the ability to measure export loads.

WQ04

Riverine habitat condition assessment and review of management guidelines

Provides a baseline of riverine habitat assessment data across NAP regions. Review and evaluate guidelines for the assessment of riverine areas, including riparian vegetation.

WQ05

Enhance community capacity to undertake monitoring of water quality targets

Supporting community water quality monitoring, particularly through the development of methodologies, quality assurance protocols for community monitoring, and training of community groups to use and implement these approaches.

For more information contact the project leader.

WQ06

Water quality impacts on ecosystem health

Assessing salinity and turbidity impacts on Queensland freshwater ecosystems.

This includes investigating the sensitivity of various Queensland aquatic plants and animals, and developing software to assess the impact of predicted changes in salinity and turbidity.
