Regional natural resource management

Sustainable agriculture SIPs

The sustainable agriculture SIPs ran from August 2004 until June 2007.

The AgSIPs encouraged governments and regional communities to work together to support landholders to make changes in management practices to prevent, stablise or reverse dryland salinity, and to improve water quality in Queensland.

The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) was the lead agency for the AgSIPs, and the projects were delivered through the DPI&F, Queensland Farmers' Federation, Central Queensland University, CSIRO, Department of Natural Resources and Water, Burdekin Canegrowers, and Cotton Catchment Communities.

You can download the final report for AgSIP from the DPI&F website.

The 18 AgSIPs came under four different themes:

Landscape management

Developing innovative ways to support communities in monitoring and actioning NRM issues.

Grazing land management

Developing best practice grazing management guidelines with stakeholders and supporting landholders in the transition to more sustainable grazing practices.

Industry capacity building for NRM

Developing industries' (horticulture, cotton, grain, cane) capacity to engage and be involved in the regional NRM process.

Coordination and process support

Economic, biophysical and social work to develop new decision support tools and processes, and overall coordination.
