Sustainable agriculture SIPs
- Sustainable agriculture - Product list 2007 (PDF, 250kB)*
The sustainable agriculture SIPs ran from August 2004 until June 2007.
The AgSIPs encouraged governments and regional communities to work together to support landholders to make changes in management practices to prevent, stablise or reverse dryland salinity, and to improve water quality in Queensland.
The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) was the lead agency for the AgSIPs, and the projects were delivered through the DPI&F, Queensland Farmers' Federation, Central Queensland University, CSIRO, Department of Natural Resources and Water, Burdekin Canegrowers, and Cotton Catchment Communities.
You can download the final report for AgSIP from the DPI&F website.
The 18 AgSIPs came under four different themes:
Landscape management
Developing innovative ways to support communities in monitoring and actioning NRM issues.
- AG01 Planning and implementation support to landscape best practice through the Integrated Area Wide Management process in NAP regions.
- AG08 IAWM development in the Condamine Alliance region.
- AG11 IAWM development in the Queensland Murray-Darling Basin region.
- AG12 IAWM development in the Fitzroy Basin region.
Grazing land management
Developing best practice grazing management guidelines with stakeholders and supporting landholders in the transition to more sustainable grazing practices.
- AG02 Grazing lands management in the Burdekin rangelands.
- AG04 Development of a grazing lands management package for the Fitzroy Basin region.
- AG06 Development of a grazing lands management package for the Queensland Murray-Darling Basin region.
- AG09 Develop and implement an environmental monitoring program across grazing lands of the NAP regions.
- AG10 Modelling simulation to support the adoption of sustainable grazing.
Industry capacity building for NRM
Developing industries' (horticulture, cotton, grain, cane) capacity to engage and be involved in the regional NRM process.
- AG05 Benchmarking pesticide and nutrient movement in new cane and horticultural farming systems.
- AG15 Building NRM capacity in irrigated cotton and grain industry.
- AG16 Scoping and capacity building of NRM issues with the horticulture industry of the Dry Tropics.
- AG17 Developing an integrated small catchments approach to management of pesticides and nutrients for cane systems.
Coordination and process support
Economic, biophysical and social work to develop new decision support tools and processes, and overall coordination.
- AG03 Coordination and process support of sustainable agriculture initiatives in all NAP regions.
- AG07 Decision support to assess impact of land use change.
- AG13 Resource economic assessment of costs/benefits involved in land use change and incentive mechanisms to support change.
- AG14 Adoption of sustainable landscape design practices on small holdings.
