The Queensland and Australian Governments have identified five areas of natural resource management to be important at a state level. State-level investment projects (SIPs) funded under the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality have been developed for each area.
The Social and Economic SIPs are some of these state-level activities. The Department of Natural Resources and Water Planning and Economic Services team is responsible for these projects and aims to improve the way social and economic considerations are incorporated in NRM.
Individual projects are:
- SE01: Institutionalising social and economic considerations and assessment in regional arrangements
- SE02: Coordination of social and economic information for the development of a regional information service
- SE03: Social research, development and extension
- SE04: Integrated research, development and extension for regional NRM
- SE05: Understanding economic drivers for natural resource management and developing and trialing a toolkit of incentives and market based instruments for regional NRM.
These projects are overseen by a Social and Economic Program Implementation Board. Experts in economics and social science provide technical and governance oversight. For information about agendas, minutes and papers for board meetings, contact the Social and Economic SIPs coordinator.
