Water quality modelling for the Great Barrier Reef catchment and lagoon (June 2008)
A compilation of modelling activities undertaken during 2002-08
This report documents water quality modelling undertaken for Queensland's Great Barrier Reef catchment and lagoon during 2002-08.
This report attempts to capture metadata on current Reef relevant modelling activities and, in doing so, achieve the following objectives:
- increase stakeholder awareness of the modelling activities undertaken from 2002-08 that are relevant to Great Barrier Reef water quality improvement.
- increase awareness and understanding of modelling packages that can be used to support water quality planning at regional and cross-regional scales.
- support the identification of modelling needs and gaps (and any duplication of effort) to:
- set, validate and refine management targets
- develop best management practices.
- support the identification of where modelling activities should be progressed as a priority.
The report focuses on water quality modelling packages and projects relevant to implementing and evaluating the Reef Plan and regional water quality initiatives (in particular, water quality improvement plans). It does not attempt to document all biophysical, social and economic modelling carried out across the Reef and its catchments; however an appendix listing some other models not covered in detail in this report is provided.
