Statewide Indigenous NRM Network (Murri Network)
The Statewide Indigenous Natural Resource Management (NRM) Network—or Murri Network—has been established to provide leadership and support for regional Aboriginal land management facilitators (ALMFs).
These ALMFs are currently employed in almost all of the 14 regional NRM bodies in Queensland, with the exception of Cape York. They play a critical role in:
- supporting the capacity building of Traditional Owners to be effective partners in regional natural resource planning and management
- identifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' interests in natural resource planning and management
- seeking investment to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' structures and on-ground projects relating to caring for country.
The network aims to build the capacity of governments, regional bodies, and Indigenous communities to be effective partners in regional natural resource planning and management by supporting and resourcing a network of Indigenous facilitators and coordinators in Queensland's regional bodies and stakeholder groups.
The network consists of one state coordinator employed through the Natural Heritage Trust, two Indigenous land management facilitators (ILMFs) employed by the Australian Government, and the ALMFs employed by the regional bodies.
The Murri Network supports engagement with Traditional Owners and Indigenous communities through Queensland's regional bodies. The network engages with stakeholders across both the public and private sector at the national, state, regional, and local levels in relation to Indigenous involvement in NRM.
For more information on the Murri Network contact Patrick Mullaley, state coordinator. Alternatively, contact the ALMF within your region.
