NRM groups 'In Safe Hands'
Queensland Water and Land Carers (QWaLC) and Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) have announced a joint risk management training initiative for community natural resource management groups. The risk management training, funded by Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund, will be delivered to groups from the Queensland border to Rockhampton.
"As administrators of insurance to NRM groups, we see a real need for risk management training," said QWaLC executive officer Vickie Webb.
"Working with CVA's 'In Safe Hands' program to achieve this is a fantastic opportunity for our groups to have relevant, practical training."
'In Safe Hands' is a safety management toolkit for community groups in practical conservation. It's a toolkit CVA uses to promote the safety of volunteers – a core value of the organisation.
As the NRM volunteer sector has grown, so has the need for volunteers to better understand their liabilities, and how to avoid them.
"Individuals may not realise the extent of the NRM volunteer sector, but we represent over 16 000 volunteers, and that's a considerable workforce that needs risk-management training," said Webb.
Groups interested in participating groups can contact QWaLC directly on 3211 4409.
Further information is available from the QWaLC web site.
