Voice of the Regions

May 2006

Volunteers are at the heart of much of what we cover in this May edition of the Voice. FNQ NRM reports on a partnership with Conservation Volunteers Australia in sending teams of workers to help clean up the mess left by cyclone Larry. Possums are catered for by prisoners at Woodford who have volunteered to make wildlife boxes in the correctional centre's industry workshop. And, with generosity comes imagination - South East Queensland surf lifesavers are an unlikely group of volunteers who will take their efforts inland ...

We also include a couple of fascinating cultural heritage stories. A report from Desert Channels Queensland tells of an ancient Aboriginal stone arrangement on the Darling Downs that is being incorporated into a cultural heritage learning centre with the blessing of its Aboriginal custodians. And, the publication of Our Culture details the rich Indigenous cultural heritage in the Condamine River catchment.
