Regional natural resource management

Voice of the Regions

June 2006

Weeds and their devastating affect on the environment are the theme of several stories this month. Not only do weeds outcompete native plants, destroying wildlife habitat and rendering agricultural land useless, but the impact of herbicides on adjacent waterways and ecosystems is a major cause for concern.

This month we also report on groups of young people - dairy farmers in the Condamine getting smart about managing the land to increase profit margins, and students in Cairns, having fun while they learn how to monitor water quality in Lily Creek.
