Get outta town! The 2005 Landcare Conference heads to Barcaldine

The Desert Uplands Build-Up and Development Strategy Committee will host the 16th Annual Queensland Landcare Catchment Management Conference from 4 - 7 August in Barcaldine.

Themed 'The Outback Speaks', this year's conference will be an opportunity to gain a better understanding and appreciation of Landcare in the outback.

There will be six field trips showcasing outback issues including land care and property management, historical and cultural heritage, outback creek ecology, and climate and weather management.

Complementary workshops will focus on topics including Landcare and regional NRM arrangements, connection to country, meeting the future of Landcare and understanding generation Y, Landcare in Western Queensland, land use, runoff and water quality in the Great Barrier Reef, and running your resource management group.

Queensland Landcare Awards nominations open for 2005

Queensland Water and Land Carers (QWaLC) invites nominations for the Queensland Landcare Awards. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Friday 5 August in Barcaldine in conjunction with the 2005 Queensland Landcare and Catchment Management Conference.

Categories include 'individual Landcarer', 'Rivercare', 'nature conservation', 'community group award', 'local government & community partnership award', 'regional partnerships', 'primary producer', 'education', 'indigenous and Coastcare community'.

Nominations close Friday 17 June 2005.

NR&M seeks partners for capacity measurement pilot project

NAP regional bodies have the opportunity to work with NR&M to develop a tool that measures changes in a local community's capacity to manage its natural resources.

NR&M will select two regional bodies to take part in a day-long pilot project in May or early June. The pilot will involve:

NR&M will also provide ongoing support for using the tool.

QWaLC invites interested people to nominate as Landcare representatives on the boards of the following regional bodies:

Is there anybody out there?

In the last two Bugles we've called for help with the revamp of the Regional NRM website.

We can't say we've been inundated with responses so we've extended the deadline to complete the survey by one week to Friday 6 May.

We really need to hear from you so we can make sure the new website delivers the information you need.
