New groundwater bores flow with vital information
A new project will shed light on groundwater processes and dryland salinity in the Monto region. The project is funded by the Queensland and Australian governments through the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality and will establish a statewide groundwater monitoring network in salinity hazard areas.
In a partnership between NR&M, Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG), Monto Shire Council and the Monto community, more than a dozen new groundwater monitoring bores will be drilled. The extra bores will complement the shallow ground water monitoring bores BMRG recently established in the Mulgildie Plateau and Luthje Road areas. Initial findings will be presented at community meetings and field days.
For information on how to involved in monitoring or field days, phone Monto Shire Council on 4166 9999 or BMRG Community Coordinator, Dean Power, on 0429 328 333.

Report details water use on Australian farms
The Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday released a report, Water Use on Australian Farms 2002-03.

These estimates have been compiled from the first detailed collection of data on irrigation water use and management from agricultural areas under irrigation.
See Water use on Australian farms 2002-03 for the full report.
Fact sheets answer tricky questions
NR&M has around 250 fact sheets providing practical information on sustainable management of our land, water, and vegetation. The fact sheets answer questions like:
- What causes soil acidification?
- How can I prepare a map of my property?
- How do I control parthenium?
- What size dam do I need?
Fact sheets can be accessed on the NR&M fact sheets website or just type in factsheets in the search box on the NR&M home page.
