Regional natural resource management

Managing natural resources

Managing natural resources is a whole-of-government responsibility shared mainly between two Queensland Government departments.

The Department of Environment and Resource Management, which includes the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), protects Queensland's natural and cultural heritage, promotes sustainable use of its natural capital, manage and allocate the state's land, water, mineral and petroleum resources, and manages native vegetation and the control of pest plants and animals.

The Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation supports the development of the food, fibre, forestry and fishing industries. The department's mission is to maximise the economic potential for Queensland's primary industries on a sustainable basis.
